What You Need to Start

To get started in reborning, you need several items. Even though it may be a bit expensive getting started, most of the items you purchase will do several dolls and of course tools and such are all re-useable.

1. A reborn doll kit - You need to be a bit careful here, a total kit includes the head, limbs, a cloth or doe suede body, neck ring to attach the head and plugs for the limbs and head. Most places (including myself) include all these parts, but some require you to purchase certain parts seperately.

2. Genesis Heat Set Paints - The most basic sets only come with 7 jars. Our sets come with 14 jars which gives you the option for different skin tones, blushing and heat set matte varnish or air dry gloss for lips and nails. Although these sets can seem expensive you can easily do over 25 dolls with a single set.

3. A paint pallette for mixing paints.

4. Paint Brushes

5. Cosmetic or Sea Sponges for applying the paint with differing effects such as mottling.

6. Odorless thinners for thinning the paints.

7. A Mohair rooting tool with needles and mohair to root the doll's hair. The tool is re-useable and needles are replaceable if broken. A single packet of mohair 20g can do two to three dolls depending on how thick you do the hair.

8. Eyes and eyelashes if your doll is an awake one, or you can hand root the sleeping dolls lashes.

9. Sundry items, a small pair of scissors, a hobby knife set for cleaning up and trimming doll parts if needed, a drill and bits if you want to do the nostrils.

10. Pellets for weighting your doll, wadding for stuffing the doll and nylon stocking to put the pellets in.

11. Once the doll is assembled, you only need the nappy and outfit(s) of your choosing.
